As well as the crossing upgrade we have achieved improvements throughout Whitchurch and Tongwynlais. This includes new signs on Heol Y Forest, the pavement at the zebra crossing at Merthyr Road and Bishops Road, better lighting and signage at the zebra crossing on Heol Don by the rail station and bollards to stop drivers mounting the pavement opposite the Church Road junction.

At Whitworth Square we agreed safety improvements of yellow lines and an additional header lamp to the lights, and there will be improved road markings and signs at each end of Tongwynlais village to improve road and pedestrian safety.

We are working to make the villages safer for all.

We are working with officers on a parking control in the Kenfig Road/Celtic Road area. This area is blighted by inconsiderate parking, predominantly from overspill from the hospital site. A scheme will be coming to consultation soon.

Local campaigner, Mia Rees, asked a public question at the July full council meeting, about the crossing on Merthyr Road, near Ararat Church.

Following the response that although there had been a fatality at the site in the last year improvements were not a priority for the labour administration. We have invited the Cabinet Member responsible and Mia to a site meeting.

We share residents’ concerns about problem parking, especially where visibility and safety are affected and also footpath obstruction where vehicles prevent the use of the footpath by pedestrians. Working with PACT and others, we regularly arrange for Civil Enforcement Officers and Police to visit areas of the ward where this is a problem.
